The Medical Research Council (MRC UK) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence with dominant research themes in the areas of HIV and emerging infections, vaccines and immunity, and chronic diseases and cancer. Through a multidisciplinary approach, intersecting basic science, epidemiological research, social-behavioural research and the conduct of new intervention evaluation studies, the Unit contributes knowledge on changing epidemics and diseases, the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide. Following the signing of strategic transfer agreements between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Medical Research Council (MRC UK), the Unit formally joined LSHTM on 1st February 2018. The exciting new partnership will boost research capacity into current and emerging health issues in Africa and throughout the world. The Unit is based at the UVRI Entebbe campus with established outposts in Kalungu, Masaka, Wakiso and Kampala Districts.
Job Summary: The job holder will mobilise participants from GPC and neighbouring villages for participation into the on-going GENDA/PSTD study.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that participants for the study are mobilized and recruited into the study;
- Conduct village meetings;
- Take good custody of the study’s resources;
- Ensure filing of collected data and project documents;
- Participate in consenting of study participants when need arises; and,
- Any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor/line manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in SWSA or Mass Media or related field;
- Should possess at least one years’ experience in a clinical research setting, preferably including experience in social and behavioural science research;
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team with clinical/epidemiological researchers;
- Prior experience in mobilizing participants for recruitment into a research study;
- Prior experience working in a general population cohort in Kyamulibwa will be an added advantage;
- Should be fluent in English and Luganda language;
- Must be able to ride a motorcycle;
- Should possess basic knowledge on data collection, handling and reporting;
- Should be proficient in computer use (MS word, Excel, Access, SSP);
- Self-driven;
- Should possess excellent social and communication skills;
- Organizational skills;
- Work independently as well as part of a team;
- Work under minimum supervision and pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions;
