Job Title: Electrical Technician – Maintenance

Based in Kampala, Uganda, we provide affordable (PayGo) electric two-wheelers to low-income motorcycle-taxi drivers, most known locally as “boda-boda ”drivers. We offer a battery swapping service to our clients, enabling to swap within minutes at any of our stations.
Job Summary: Support the installation and basic maintenance of Zembo’s charging cabinets, power distribution units, and related infrastructure on-site. The electrician will handle the physical setup, electrical connections, and replacement of key components, while applying safe practices and supporting routine operations to ensure stable field performance of Zembo systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Electrical Installations & Maintenance
- Carry out basic electrical wiring and installation of components inside charging cabinets and stations.
- Install charging cabinets, PDUs, and power components at Zembo field stations.
- Connect units to mains or solar power according to installation guidelines.
- Perform first-level troubleshooting and component replacement on-site.
- Conduct visual checks and basic electrical measurements before commissioning.
- Respect safety measures during field work and battery handling.
- Carry out all electrical maintenance at stations and offices.
Quality Control
- Support final-stage inspection of wiring and connections in newly assembled units.
- Report installation issues or deviations from the layout.
- Support verification of correct wiring at the installation site.
- Log observations and help improve installation procedures.
- Follow checklists during maintenance tasks and report any non-conformities.
Technical Monitoring & Documentation
- Read and interpret basic wiring diagrams or installation guides.
- Maintain a basic log of installation work done and issues encountered.
- Provide site feedback to technical leads.
- Assist in keeping safety documentation up to date on-site.
- Record maintenance actions and wiring work in technical logs or forms.
- Keep tools and workstations clean and organized.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma from a recognized Ugandan Technical Institute (UBTEB / UNEB) in Electrical Installation, Industrial Electricity.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in electrical works, ideally including installation and maintenance of electrical systems in industrial or commercial settings.
- Skilled in installing and connecting industrial machines, power supply lines, and distribution boards, and performing safe work in high-current and high-voltage contexts.
- Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and follow technical instructions for safe and compliant installations.
- Comfortable working on-site, sometimes under time constraints or in urgent maintenance conditions.
- Committed to safety rules, with hands-on experience applying lock-out/tag-out procedures, circuit isolation, and protective equipment.
- Able to communicate clearly with supervisors and fill out maintenance or installation reports in technical English.
- Experience in solar, battery systems, or electric mobility is a plus.
- Experience in 3-phase (415V) supply and installations.
