Job Summary: The Education Advisor development and roll-out of CPD will be responsible for co-designing and continuously improving the macro-, meso-, and micro-curriculum of the Project-Based Learning for Agriculture Teachers (PAT) and Project-Based Learning for Entrepreneurship Teachers (PET) CPD courses. This includes developing the course structure, content, instructional materials, and assignments in close consultation with the course coordinators and facilitators from the UNITE campuses of Mubende, Unyama and Muni.
S/he will dynamically assess the capacity development needs of the partnering UNITE campuses, and design and implement relevant capacity development trajectories that ensure partners are able to deliver these blended CPD courses to O-level agriculture and entrepreneurship teachers smoothly and with quality. Together with other advisors on the programme, s/he will support the quality and fidelity of implementation of the programme at the partner level.
The Education Advisor reports to the Education Manager, works in consultation with the Strategic Education Advisor responsible for CPD, and collaborates closely with colleagues in the Green LEAP programme, and the education, operations and communication departments of VVOB in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- You offer technical advice, guidance and support to partners and align and collaborate with internal VVOB colleagues to achieve project results and realise the educational change processes supported by the project.
- You contribute to the identification, formulation, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project that you are assigned to in order to realise the educational change processes supported by the project.
- You take up a variety of roles in the capacity development process of the partners according to the needs of the partner and particular situations and phases of the programme;
- You keep abreast with policy trends, new developments and latest research and thinking in agricultural education and training, positive youth development / youth economic empowerment and international development by external and internal networking and share new insights with partners and VVOB colleagues.
This position is open to Ugandan nationals only.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree in education, human sciences, or other relevant field, or equivalent through extensive and proven experience.
- At least 5 years demonstrable expertise and experience in developing CPD courses for O-level teachers, both in-person and online.
- Demonstrable expertise and experience in project-based learning, including in-depth understanding of key design features, appropriate teaching and assessment practices, and context- and curriculum-relevant examples of project-based learning.
- Experience with change management and capacity development processes in the context of educational institutions.
- Capability to appropriately plan and deploy a range of capacity development methods e.g., co-creation workshops, training, coaching, mentoring, events, study visits, etc. to strengthen educational institutions and accompany change processes.
- An in-depth understanding of the national education system and the latest developments in the education sector, specifically teacher and school leader professional development, and capability to appropriately utilise this understanding in function of the programme that you are assigned to.
- In-depth understanding of new trends in education design processes and education technology and capability to appropriately utilise this understanding in function of the programme that you are assigned to.
- Excellent communication skills in listening, writing and public speaking
- Knowledge of and experience with programme implementation, preferably project cycle management.
