About Organisation:
The Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA), is a government agency established by the Parliament of Uganda to monitor, investigate, and prevent money laundering in the country. It is also responsible for the enforcement of Uganda’s anti-money laundering laws and the monitoring of all financial transactions inside the country’s borders.
Job Summary: To analyze complex datasets and provide data-driven insights to support decision-making and enhance the operational effectiveness of the Authority.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect, process, and analyse large datasets to generate actionable insights.
- Develop and implement data models, algorithms, and statistical tools to address organizational challenges.
- Design and build data pipelines for efficient extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
- Apply machine learning techniques to detect patterns, trends, and anomalies in data.
- Collaborate with departments to identify data requirements and deliver tailored analytical solutions.
- Visualize data findings through dashboards, charts, and presentations to facilitate decision-making.
- Conduct predictive and prescriptive analyses to support strategic planning and risk mitigation.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with established standards.
- Contribute to the development of policies and strategies for leveraging data within the Authority.
- Prepare and submit reports on data science initiatives and projects.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Professional certification in data science, machine learning, or related fields.

Competencies
- Knowledge and understanding of the Authority’s vision, mission, and objectives.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
- Familiarity with big data tools and frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Strong understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or Matplotlib).
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex datasets accurately.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments to solve data-related challenges.
- Knowledge of data governance, privacy regulations, and ethical standards.
