Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) is a national women’s non-governmental organization based in Kampala. Forum for Women in Democracy is a non-partisan women’s organization operating in Uganda with its head office in Kampala. FOWODE grew out of the Women’s Caucus of the 1994 –1995 Constituent Assembly (CA) that debated and passed the 1995 Constitution. The organization’s mission is to promote gender equality in all areas of decision making through capacity development, community empowerment, policy engagement and strategic partnerships. As part of its mission to amplify citizen voices and promote gender equality, FOWODE runs SPEAK FM 89.5, based in Gulu City.
Job Summary: FOWODE is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and results-oriented individual to fill the position of Station Manager at SPEAK FM Radio Station. The Station Manager will provide both strategic and operational leadership to the station, ensuring high-quality, impactful programming; full compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements; and strong financial and business performance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership to ensure SPEAK FM operates as a sustainable business, with a clear focus on financial viability, profitability, and long-term growth.
- Lead and manage the station’s programming function to ensure timely, impactful, and audience-driven content aligned.
- Oversee day-to-day station operations including programming, news, technical, and administrative units, ensuring smooth workflow and high-quality output.
- Develop and implement business and operational plans, driving innovation and continuous improvement in content delivery, service, and organizational performance.
- Drive financial performance through sound budgeting, cost control, advertising, and revenue generation strategies, ensuring the station meets its financial targets and achieves break-even performance.
- Monitor and report on station performance metrics, including audience reach, advertising income, operating margins, and financial sustainability.
- Ensure full regulatory compliance with Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), and other relevant legal and statutory bodies applicable to a company limited by shares.
- Safeguard the station’s assets by overseeing safety, security, inventory
- Serve as the station’s public relations and external engagement lead, building strategic partnerships and promoting SPEAK FM’s visibility at community, national and international levels.
- Maintain accurate administrative, financial, and programming records, ensuring transparency, accountability, and timely reporting.
- Supervise and support station staff, including performance management, professional development, and motivation—ensuring a productive and values driven workplace.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Mass Communication, or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience managing a service-oriented or media-related business.
- Masters’ degree in Business Administration and Management is an added advantage.
- Postgraduate qualifications in broadcasting, media management, or communication are an added advantage.
- Experience in turning around businesses will be an added advantage.

- Strong leadership and team management abilities with proven experience in leading diverse teams.
- In-depth understanding of broadcasting operations and regulations.
- Financial acumen and experience in budget preparation and cost management.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent organizational and decision-making capabilities.
- Experience in sales, marketing, and business development.
- High level of integrity and accountability
