Job Title: Senior Science Officer – Research Registration & Management

About Organisation:
The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) is a Government agency established in 1990 by an Act of Parliament (CAP. 209) of the Laws of Uganda. The agency is mandated to facilitate the development and implementation of strategies for integrating Science and Technology (S&T) into the national development process.
Job Summary: The Senior Science Officer, Research Registration and Management will conduct quality assurance of R&D projects and programs submitted to UNCST, to ensure they meet the requirements in the national guidelines, regulations, policies and applicable laws related to research.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and conduct quality assurance checks of study protocols to identify areas of non-compliance before registration and final clearance;
- Monitor the scientific and ethical conduct of registered research studies within the National Research Registration Information Management System (NRIMS) and provide advice on the appropriate corrective action in relation to the established research compliance standards.
- Implement tracking mechanisms for progress of cleared studies within the National Research Registration Information Management System (NRIMS), and advice the Principal Investigators on study implementation requirements.
- Review and recommend studies for inclusion into the research monitoring plan to ensure compliance with the established national and international standards;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Masters in a science degree such as Public Health, Health Service Management, Bioethics, Social Science and Humanities or any related fields;
- Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Humanities and Social Sciences, Physical or Life Sciences, Environmental Science or any science related field;
- Training and proven experience in Research Ethics;
- Proven Experience in Research Regulatory Affairs;
- Experience with electronic research management systems, database management and data analytics tools.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in the same or a similar field;
- Not more than 45 years of age.
