Job Title: Senior Science Officer – Communications

About Organisation:
The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) is a Government agency established in 1990 by an Act of Parliament (CAP. 209) of the Laws of Uganda. The agency is mandated to facilitate the development and implementation of strategies for integrating Science and Technology (S&T) into the national development process.
Job Summary: To support the development and execution of UNCST’s communication and public engagement strategy by creating impactful content and managing stakeholder relations. The role enhances the organization’s visibility, promotes awareness of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) initiatives, and contributes to the successful implementation of institutional programs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support development and delivery of UNCST communication and public Engagement strategy.
- Promote UNCST profile and image through innovative image and reputation building initiatives.
- Engage with UNCST’s external stakeholders to promote awareness on STI matters and support for implementation of institutional programmes.
- Develop quality written and visual materials (publications, advertisements, videos, presentations, etc.) for digital and print media, to support UNCST communication.
- Support UNCST events management including but not limited to: workshops, scientific conferences, exhibitions, webinars among others.
- Support development and implementation of an appropriate system for recognition of Ugandans for excellence in Science, Technology and Innovation.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, International Relations, or any other relevant field;
- Proven training in Communications /Public Relations;
- Minimum of six (6) years in Public Relations or Outreach and Corporate Communications role;
- Knowledge and experience working with diverse communities;
- Knowledge of Government of Uganda’s Communications Strategy;
- Proficiency with Web and Multimedia Design software;
- Experience with media relations, publishing and public events planning and management;
- Excellent communication and writing skills;
- Not above 45 years of age;
- Ability to work effectively as a team player in a dynamic environment.
