Job Title: Senior Communications Officer

About Organisation:
The Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA), is a government agency established by the Parliament of Uganda to monitor, investigate, and prevent money laundering in the country. It is also responsible for the enforcement of Uganda’s anti-money laundering laws and the monitoring of all financial transactions inside the country’s borders.
Job Summary: To support the implementation of the Authority’s communication and public relations activities to ensure accurate dissemination of information and enhance the Authority’s visibility and image.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and disseminate communication materials such as press releases, newsletters, brochures, and reports.
- Manage content updates for the Authority’s website and social media platforms to ensure timely and accurate information.
- Monitor media coverage and public sentiment related to the Authority and prepare summary reports.
- Support the organization of public relations activities, events, and campaigns to promote the Authority’s mandate and achievements.
- Respond to routine inquiries from the media, stakeholders, and the public in consultation with senior officers.
- Develop and maintain a database of media contacts and stakeholders for effective communication.
- Support the development of communication strategies and action plans for the Authority.
- Prepare presentations, speeches, and other materials for events and engagements.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for communication activities and events.
- Ensure proper documentation and archiving of communication-related materials.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Experience
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience, 3 of which should have been served at Officer level in Government or reputable organization.
Competencies
- Knowledge and understanding of the Authority’s vision, mission, and objectives.
- Knowledge of Anti Money Laundering Act, Cap 118, Anti-Terrorism Act and respective regulations.
- Proficiency in content creation, editing, and management across various platforms.
- Strong understanding of social media management and analytics tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to draft clear and concise reports and press releases.
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Creativity in developing communication campaigns and materials.
- Knowledge of media relations and event coordination.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
