DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.

Job Summary: Reporting to the Cloud Infrastructure Services Manager, the Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for ongoing server administration and support of all Infrastructure systems. including both on-premises and cloud server infrastructure, with varied operating systems in scope.

The role holder is responsible for the deployment, tuning, performance and availability of the datacenter equipment, server and WAN infrastructure to the highest standard with maximum levels of productivity and efficiency.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meeting the uptime requirements for all infrastructure services.
  • Advisory, support and controlled deployment of new Infrastructure Technologies.
  • Implement effective infrastructure technology maintenance routines.
  • Provide the necessary support to assure the security of data in Storage, transition and processing.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the bank users and customers, including root cause analysis for recurring infrastructure problems.
  • Infrastructure Capacity Planning and management.
  • Develop and support quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
  • Secure Infrastructure deployments, including patching and upgrading all IT infrastructure as per Bank policy.
  • Collaborate & Respond to Audit Teams & Queries.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or other relevant field from a reputable university or college.
  • Certification in either one or more of the following: UNIX, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, Oracle Systems, Virtual Server technologies (e.g. VMWARE, OpenShift, or Kubernetes), Hyperscale’s certifications such as Azure or AWS, ITIL Foundation training.
  • 3- 5 years technical experience supporting Enterprise Infrastructure systems in medium to large organizations.
  • Experience with multiple enterprise grade storage and backup subsystems.
  • Experience with virtual infrastructures e.g. VMWARE, Hyper-V, etc.
  • Broad knowledge of ICT infrastructure Management and Control Techniques.
  • An understanding of operating systems, data communications, networking, Databases, hardware (PC/Hardware), system applications, and various technologies and their integration with Computer Systems.
  • Working experience with Internet technologies, IP technologies, Network devices and equipment (e.g. Routers, switches, hubs, and firewalls).
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence; speak clearly to third parties and employees.
  • Able and willing to solve complex analytical challenges, independently analyze information; and make recommendations based on analysis.
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to adapt and work co-operatively and effectively in different situations and teams to carry out assigned tasks maintain a positive attitude under stress conditions.
  • Disposition to share knowledge fully and willingly with other employees in the interest of the organization.
