Hashtag Gulu Initiative is a youth-focused and youth-led registered Indigenous nonprofit organisation dedicated to supporting children and youths who live or work on the streets. Our work focuses on rehabilitation, reformation, and reintegration. We envision a community where individuals take collective responsibility for each other’s well-being, contributing to an inclusive and peaceful society. Hashtag Gulu Initiative provides alternatives to crime and violence by mentoring street-connected children and youths to become productive citizens. We collaborate with parents to address the root causes of the challenges faced by these individuals rather than relying on unsubstantiated assumptions.
Job Summary: We are seeking a passionate Volunteer Counsellor to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will support the emotional and psychological wellbeing of young people in street situations and juvenile rehabilitation settings, playing a critical role in their healing, reintegration, and personal development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide counselling services to street-connected children and juveniles.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and psychosocial support activities.
- Assist in designing trauma-informed interventions.
- Work closely with our team of clinical psychologists, social workers, trainers, and family mediators.
- Offer emotional support during family tracing, mediation, and reintegration processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical counselling standards.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A background in counselling, psychology, or a related field.
- Experience (or strong interest) in working with vulnerable children and youth.
- Ability to communicate fluently in Acholi.
- Compassionate, patient, and committed to youth development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
