Objectives of the LIT Program
The LIT Program aims to transform Uganda’s secondary education into an innovative, quality, and relevant education system that enables students to advance in education and transition into the workforce by 2030. The 5-year (2025-2030) LIT program is designed to deliver four key outcomes, namely 1) Elevated status of the teaching profession; 2) Improved teaching and learning practices in secondary schools; 3) School leaders increasingly adopt effective leadership practices; and 4) Motivated secondary education teaching workforce.
Job Summary: The Finance Lead will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the program, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. The person will be responsible for preparing financial reports and supporting budget management. Working closely with the program teams, the Finance Lead will ensure the financial integrity and transparency of the program’s operations while contributing to financial planning and auditing processes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring the accuracy of financial data and compliance with internal and donor requirements.
- Process payments and ensure that all financial transactions are documented and classified according to LGF’s accounting policies and budget lines.
- Perform bank reconciliations, ensuring that all financial transactions are properly recorded and aligned with bank statements.
- Ensure financial processes comply with LGF and donor policies and procedures.
- Prepare and manage invoicing processes for vendors and service providers, ensuring timely payments and correct coding of expenses.
- Prepare documentation for audits and internal reviews, ensuring that financial transactions are transparent and comply with audit requirements.
- Prepare and monitor the program’s budget, including tracking expenditures and identifying any variances.
- Maintain and organize all financial documentation, including receipts, invoices, payment vouchers, and other supporting documents for financial transactions.
- Provide financial training and support to program staff and partners to ensure understanding of financial procedures, reporting requirements, and effective use of financial resources.
- Provide regular financial reports and analysis to support program management, including budget monitoring, variance analysis, and financial forecasts.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field
- Professional certification (ACCA, CPA) is required
- Over (5) five years of experience in accounting or financial management, ideally within the donor-funded sector
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance standards
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
Preferred Attributes
- Experience working on large-scale education or development programs
- Familiarity with financial systems and accounting software
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and address financial discrepancies
- A proactive attitude towards ensuring financial compliance and efficiency
- Strong interpersonal skills
