Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) is a national women’s non-governmental organization based in Kampala. Forum for Women in Democracy is a non-partisan women’s organization operating in Uganda with its head office in Kampala. FOWODE grew out of the Women’s Caucus of the 1994 –1995 Constituent Assembly (CA) that debated and passed the 1995 Constitution. The organization’s mission is to promote gender equality in all areas of decision making through capacity development, community empowerment, policy engagement and strategic partnerships.
Job Summary: As we continue to grow our influence and impact, we are looking for a dynamic, creative, and experienced Communications Officer to join our passionate team. This position is based at the FOWODE Head office in Kampala.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Officer will play a vital role in enhancing the visibility and public engagement of FOWODE. The successful candidate will:
- Work with the team to implement FOWODE’s Communication Strategy.
- Keep abreast of latest tools and trends and participate in strategizing for streamlined execution of communication on all media platforms & publications.
- Collect, synthesize, store, document, and regularly disseminate information relevant to FOWODE’s mission and programs, ensuring stakeholders are well-informed.
- Ensure that FOWODE’s website and social media pages are vibrant, up-to-date, and effectively communicate the organization’s activities and achievements.
- Ensure the organization’s branding is consistent and of high quality across all materials and platforms, maintaining a strong and recognizable corporate identity.
- Participate in developing IEC materials and visual communications.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Must posses strictly one of the following qualifications: Bachelor of Mass Communication; Journalism, Public Relations and Media Studies.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Communication /Journalism/ Public Relations is an added advantage.
- At least 3 years’ experience in a similar communications role, preferably within an NGO
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Proficiency in social media management and digital marketing tools.
- Design and publication skills especially interfacing with Adobe Design tools and Canva will be an added advantage.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in collecting, synthesizing, storing, documenting and dissemination of information.
