About the Company:

The Judicial Service Commission is a Constitutional body established under Article 146 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995, whose mandate is to recruit judicial officers and regulate their conduct.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   The successful candidate will be responsible to the Registrar for performing the following duties:

  • Performing judicial functions as prescribed by law;
  • Assist the Registrar in managing the Registry;
  • Organizing sessions and Court sittings for the Court;
  • Conducting summons for directions and all preliminaries before scheduling of cases and cause listing;
  • Ensuring that Court case records are complete before cause listing;
  • Taking custody of and securing the Court seal;
  • Preparing weekly and monthly cause lists of the Court and sharing them with stakeholders;
  • Preparing meetings of Justices, Judges, staff and users of the Court (Court User Committees/Circuit Coordination Committees);
  • Serving as the sub-accounting officer for all funds of the Court;
  • Managing an inventory of Judiciary assets;
  • Preparing performance and activity reports of the Court on a monthly, quarterly, biannual, and annual basis;
  • Promoting the positive image of the Judiciary by adhering to the Judicial Code of Conduct, the Judiciary’s core values, and its policy of zero-tolerance of corruption among Court staff and oneself;
  • Ensuring that the Registry, Archives and Exhibit stores are kept well organised; and
  • Carrying out any other duties that may be assigned to him or her by the supervisor.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Applicants shall be in possession of an Ordinary Level Certificate, Advanced Level Certificate, Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree (at least a Second-Class Lower Division) from a recognised university or institution, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre or a recognised institution.
  • Applicants should have served as an Assistant Registrar for at least one (1) year or as a Chief Magistrate for at least two (2) years or a similar position in a reputable organisation or institution for at least two (2) years.
  • Any relevant advanced or postgraduate qualification(s), ICT qualification(s), and experience will be an added advantage. A Certificate of Enrolment is a requirement.
  • Applicants for this post should attach four (4) samples of Judgements (Criminal and Civil) they have written.

 

  • Applicants appointed to this position will act for a period of one (1) year before being confirmed in a substantive capacity upon an evaluation of their performance.

    • A certified copy of the applicant’s latest and complete Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities from the Inspectorate of Government.
    • Copies of previous appointment, confirmation and promotion letters (where applicable).
