About Organisation:
The Uganda National Mining Company (UNMC) was established under the Mining and Minerals Act, 2022, (Act No. 25 of 2022) and incorporated under the Companies Act 2012, (Act No.1 of 2012). It is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Uganda. The overall function of UNMC is to manage the commercial holding and participating interests of the State in the mining and mineral industry to ensure that the country obtains optimal value from its mineral resources.
Job Summary: The Senior Legal Officer Board Affairs will be responsible for providing Legal Services to the Company’s Board and contribute to the efficient discharge of the Company’s mandates
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in the compilation of information for business planning, budgeting and review process.
- Facilitating Board operations
- Advising the Company on legal issues affecting its operations.
- Supporting and facilitating contracts preparation
- Representing the Company in judicial and administrative matters.
- Work closely with and follows-up with the office of the Solicitor General on all legal and constitutional matters
- Advising the Company in staff employment and Labour Relations Matters.
- Conducting searches, registration and filings.
- Carries out any other lawful assignment allocated by the immediate Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An Honors degree in Law from a recognized University
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Legal practice, enrolled Advocate with a valid certificate and appears before the High Court
- A Master’s Degree in either Laws, Mining Law, Natural Resources Law, Management, or a related field
- At least six (6) years relevant professional or experience in a natural resource public or private institution, four (4) of which should have been at senior level.
- Additional qualifications in Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators will be an added advantage.
- Experience in legal matters and exposure in Board affairs of large public or commercial organizations.
- Age: 25-40 years
