Job Title:  Nursing Officer

Duty Station: Kisaasi, Kampala, Uganda

The Children’s Clinic is one of the first and largest and busiest Paediatric Clinics in and around greater Kampala. The clinic exists to provide first class specialist Paediatric care to clients, their Families and communities in a holistic Manner and thus providing quality compassionate care using the latest techniques, technology and equipment and the best human resources is one of our core goals. They now operate 3 branches: Naalya, Najjera and Kisaasi.

 

Job Summary:   We are currently looking for a passionate and skilled Nursing Officer to join our dynamic team of healthcare professionals. If you are someone who is motivated by helping children thrive and work well in a collaborative setting, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to children and their families in a clinic setting, ensuring safety, comfort, and emotional support at all times.
  • Perform clinical assessments, administer medications, and carry out procedures following established protocols and best practices.
  • Coordinate with pediatricians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Educate children and their families about health conditions, treatments, and preventative care.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to healthcare regulations.
  • Foster a warm, friendly, and safe environment for children and their families, putting them at ease during visits.
  • Assist with the management and supervision of junior nursing staff and ensure smooth clinic operations.
  • Handle emergency situations with composure, providing immediate care and support.
  • Offering guidance to parents about how to best care for their sick child.
  • Checking on the condition and progress of patients when on duty.
  • Monitoring patients’ vitals in accordance to the Children’s clinic triage standards.
  • Providing emotional support to patients and their care takers.
  • Obtaining parental consent for specific treatments that require acknowledgment.
  • Handling accidents and emergencies in accordance to the Children’s clinics standard operating procedure.
  • Following up on clients seen by making daily calls, recording the calls and referring clients who need more attention to the head of clinical.
  • Vaccinating children and educating their care takers of vaccines on the schedules provided.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma or Equivalent in Nursing sciences.
  • UNMC registered with up- to – date practicing licenses.

A successful candidate should exhibit:

  • Immaculate expressive and written English.
  • The Ability to work under pressure.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, especially when interacting with children and families.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • A positive attitude, bubbly personality, patience, and a friendly demeanor.
  • Compassionate, patient, and caring attitude, with a genuine interest in children’s health and well-being.
  • Knowledge of child-specific health needs, safety standards, and pediatric protocols.
  • Strong judgement and observation skills.
  • Vast Knowledge on immunology.
  • Know Trends in nursing segments.
