Job Summary: The Project Officer will take lead in the planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and documentation of project activities and outcomes for the Ending harmful practices and promoting adolescent girls’ rights in Karamoja project specifically in Nakapiripirit and Amudat districts. He/she will take lead in the implementation of project activities, writing quality project reports, project monitoring, stakeholder and community engagement in compliance with AAIU and donor standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordination, planning, reporting, and implementation of project activities in line with the CSP 6, organizational policies, and donor funding agreement/guidelines.
- In consultation with the project Coordinator review project activities to meet changing needs and requirements in line with the project document and donor agreement.
- Take lead in the writing and submission of project reports, including monitoring and evaluation of all aspects of project implementation efficiently and transparently in line with project standards and guidelines.
- Manage the project budget and work plan in accordance with organizational guidelines and project documents, monitor adherence to organizational policies and ensure compliance of field staff to systems, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee the operations of the Amudat GBV shelter in accordance with the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social development guidelines and AAIU standards.
- In collaboration with the DCDO, probation officer, CFPU, Judiciary and the police receive GBV survivors and provide the necessary shelter services including legal support, psychosocial support, cancelling and mediations among others.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with implementing partners, district and national stakeholders to promote AAIU image in line with the Organizational mission vision and values including by sharing periodic progress reports with the district community office.
- Participate in the organization fundraising initiatives through the provision of information needed in the writing of funding concepts and proposals.
- Mobilise district stakeholders, community leaders including religious and cultural leaders to actively participate in project activities.
- Supervise, mentor and motive GBV shelter teams to effectively deliver their responsibilities and meet AAIU performance standards.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Administration, Law, Public Health, International Relations, Women and Gender studies, Development Studies, Human Rights or any related field from a recognized Institution.
- Post graduate diploma in Project Planning and Management is an added advantage.
Professional Work experience:
- A minimum of three years of similar work experience in a reputable organization, preferable an NGO.
- Demonstrated experience of at least two years working on gender transformative projects, women rights and social norm change.
- Demonstrated experience of working on projects aimed at challenging Harmful practices, SHRH and GBV services.
- Knowledge off and ability to apply participatory tools and the Human Rights Based Approach to programming is required.
- Knowledge of the local social-cultural and economic context in relation to adolescents especially for the age group of 10 – 19 years is highly desirable.
- Fluence in the local language of Pokot and karamojong is an added advantage.

- Planning and Budgeting skills, Resource mobilization, advocacy, Documentation, , Community Participatory approaches, Capacity building and awareness raising skills, Good communication and Interpersonal Skills, Team player, Patient and tolerant person, Accountable and trustworthy, knowledge of Safeguarding Principle, Self-driven and ability to work extra hours, willingness and ability to work in rural settings and hard to reach communities of karamoja, The ability to ride a motorcycle is a Must.
