On behalf of our client, we are looking for a competent and experienced Civil Technician to be based in Kampala, Uganda.
Job Summary: This role involves providing technical support in the planning, designing, construction, and maintenance of civil engineering projects such as roads, bridges, buildings, water systems, and other infrastructure. The role also involves site supervision, surveying, preparing technical drawings, and ensuring that construction work adheres to design specifications and safety standards. The Civil Technician shall work closely with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are executed efficiently, accurately, and within scope.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the designing, planning, and execution of infrastructure projects such as roads, drainage systems, bridges, and buildings.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved designs, standards, and safety regulations.
- Prepare and revise technical drawings, plans, and layouts using CAD software under the supervision of engineers.
- Conduct site surveys and collect measurements for design verification and progress tracking.
- Assist with material testing, soil sampling, and quality checks to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of project progress, measurements, and daily site activities.
- Report site issues or deviations from design to the supervising engineer.
- Liaise with contractors, engineers, and suppliers to support timely project delivery.
- Ensure all activities on-site follow safety procedures and environmental regulations.
- Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions as necessary.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field.
- Understanding of surveying tools, CAD software, and basic civil works.
- At least 5 years post qualification experience as a Civil Technician.
- Ability to interprete engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Familiarity with construction materials, methods, and project documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in outdoor environments and under varying weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards on construction sites.
- Ability to use technical software like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar tools.
Barriers to Success in Role
- Limited or lack of knowledge about surveying tools, CAD software, and basic civil works.
- Inability to interprete engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
