Job Title: Medical Officer Special Grade (General Surgery) 2 Positions

About Organisation:
EMERGENCY opened the Children’s Surgical Hospital in Entebbe to provide free paediatric surgical care in Uganda, one of the youngest countries in the world: more than half the population is under 15. When the hospital first opened in 2021, the mortality rate for children under five in Uganda was 43 for every 1,000 live births.
Job Summary: The Medical Officer Special Grade (General Surgery) is a senior medical professional specializing in general surgery, responsible for performing surgical procedures, managing patient care, and mentoring junior medical staff at the Children’s Surgical Hospital.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in ensuring efficient management of services in General Surgery at the Hospital and its catchment area.
- Supervise and mentor Medical Officers, Interns, and other Health Professionals under him/her.
- Plan and coordinate training programs for Health Professionals under him/her.
- Plan and coordinate Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in General Surgery for Health Professionals at the Hospital.
- Provide technical and professional advice in General Surgery to the Government and the institution.
- Carry out research in his/her area of specialization.
- Prepare and submit periodic reports.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- MBChB Degree or its equivalent from a recognized University or institution.
- Master of Medicine Degree in General Surgery or its equivalent from a recognized University or institution.
Other Requirements:
- Demonstrable qualities of leadership and integrity.
Competencies:
- Surgical expertise in pediatric general surgery.
- Leadership and mentoring skills.
- Research and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork.
