Job Title: Senior Manager Community Conservation and Ex-Situ Wildlife Services

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is a semi-autonomous agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities. UWA was established in 1996 and is managed in accordance with the Wildlife Act Cap 200.
Job Summary: To provide strategic leadership and guidance in Community Conservation programs and Captive Wildlife Management
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinating the development of strategies and plans for Conservation Education, Captive Wildlife, Human-Wildlife Conflict, Community benefits and Enterprise management.
- Regulating and licensing of private captive wildlife management Centres
- Coordinating the development of relevant management and administrative policies, regulations, standards and guidelines.
- Regulating and licensing wildlife trade, farming, hunting, ranching and other wildlife enterprises
- Coordinating the implementation of Conservation Education Programs and projects in the country
- Coordinating the management of Ex-situ Wildlife facilities, Human-Wildlife conflicts in the communities, Community benefits and enterprises accruing from wildlife Conservation.
- Managing and accounting for revenue sharing and the wildlife compensation scheme.
- Establishing and maintaining collaborative linkages with stakeholders in Conservation Education and Captive Wildlife Management.
- Mobilizing resources to implement Community Conservation and Ex-situ Wildlife Management Strategies and Plans.
- Preparing work plans and periodic reports.
- Supervising and appraising staff.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Education (Biological), Zoology, Botany, Veterinary Medicine, Conservation Biology, Wildlife Health and Management, Environmental Sciences or Environmental Management from a recognized University
- Master’s Degree in the above fields from a recognized University
Experience
- At least twelve (12) years of relevant working experience, three (3) years of which are at Manager level in related field from a reputable organization.
