Job Title: Science Officer -Bio-Safety

The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) is a Government agency established in 1990 by an Act of Parliament (CAP. 209) of the Laws of Uganda. The agency is mandated to facilitate the development and implementation of strategies for integrating Science and Technology (S&T) into the national development process.
Job Summary: To ensure research and development activities comply with biosafety and biosecurity standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To support in the formulation of regulatory frameworks in Biosafety and Biosecurity.
- Organize and participate in inspections and audits of Biosafety and Biosecurity activities and programs to ensure that they comply with national and international standards.
- Maintain digital Biosafety and Biosecurity regulatory platforms.
- Receive and process applications involving genetic techniques and tools for decision-making by the UNCST.
- Provide administrative and secretarial support to the National Biosafety Committee.
- Participate in the conduct of biosafety awareness events and programs.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Biotechnology/Environmental Sciences/Laboratory sciences/ Biological Sciences or any other relevant scientific discipline,
- Minimum of 3years experience in biosafety or Biosecurity or laboratory management.
- Knowledge of national and international Biosafety and Biosecurity regulations and best practices.
- Hands-on experience in risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and research involving biological agents.
- Experience in conducting inspections or audits of laboratory or research facilities.
- Good interpersonal and communications skills
- Not more than 35 years
