The Northern Uganda Media Club (NUMEC) is a leading media development organization dedicated to strengthening journalism, promoting press freedom, and supporting journalists in northern Uganda.

 

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Accountant to join our team and oversee our financial activities. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and sustainability of an organization that plays a critical role in Uganda’s media landscape.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, and reporting.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, statements, and reports in compliance with Ugandan laws and donor requirements.
  • Monitor cash flow, payroll, and ensure timely payment of bills and statutory obligations (e.g., URA, NSSF).
  • Conduct regular financial audits and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to program teams to ensure effective resource allocation and utilization.
  • Liaise with external auditors, donors, and stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in financial management.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional qualifications such as ACCA or CPA will be an added advantage. Or a Diploma with 3-5 years of experience.
  • At least 2 years of proven experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within the NGO sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Ugandan financial regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
