On behalf of our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for a competent and experienced Production Manager to be based in Jinja, Uganda.

Job Summary: This role which involves overseeing and coordinating daily production activities to ensure efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective manufacturing processes. This role involves planning, scheduling, and managing resources, including personnel and materials, to meet production targets and maintain workflow efficiency. The Production Manager is accountable for implementing safety protocols, monitoring compliance with quality standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production output. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Production Manager ensures that operations align with company goals and customer demands while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Production Planning and Scheduling: Develop and oversee production schedules to ensure timely completion of projects. Allocate resources efficiently, including labor, materials, and equipment, to meet production targets.
- Quality Control and Compliance: Monitor production processes to maintain quality standards and compliance with industry regulations. Implement and oversee quality control measures to ensure products meet specifications.
- Resource Management: Manage resources, including workforce, materials, and equipment, to ensure efficient and effective production. Coordinate with procurement to maintain inventory levels and avoid production delays.
- Team Supervision and Development: Lead, train, and supervise production staff, including setting performance goals, providing feedback, and fostering a productive work environment. Address performance issues and support professional development.
- Safety Management: Ensure that all safety procedures are followed and maintain a safe working environment. Conduct safety training and audits to minimize accidents and comply with health and safety regulations.
- Cost Control and Budgeting: Manage production budgets and control costs by optimizing processes, reducing waste, and improving efficiency. Track expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce production time. Implement lean manufacturing or other improvement initiatives to streamline operations.
- Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate with other departments, such as engineering, maintenance, quality control, and supply chain, to ensure alignment and address production challenges.
- Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve production issues quickly to avoid downtime or delays. Analyze root causes of production problems and implement corrective actions.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production activities, including output, downtime, and quality metrics. Prepare regular reports on production performance and suggest improvement areas to management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production Management, Operations Management, or a related field
- Understanding of managing production teams and meeting production targets in a fast-paced environment.
- At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing, production, or operations roles.
- Experience in managing production teams and meeting production targets in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with quality control and process improvement techniques.
- Familiarity with industry-specific production processes and regulations.
Barriers to Success in Role
- Limited or lack of technical knowledge about production processes and regulations in a manufacturing industry.
- Inability to analyze complex production data, identify inefficiencies and make data-driven decisions to optimize processes and solve problems.
