Human Capital Business Solutions is a boutique human resources consultancy that specializes in strategic HR consulting, Talent Acquisition & Management and HR Outsourcing services.

 

On behalf of our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for a competent and experienced People and Culture Manager to be based in Jinja, Uganda.

Reports To: The Chief Executive Officer

Duty Station:  Jinja, Uganda

 

Job Summary:  This role involves leading and managing the Organization’s human resources and culture-related initiatives to ensure a positive employee experience and alignment with the company’s goals and values. This role also involves developing and implementing strategies for talent acquisition, employee engagement, performance management, and organizational development. The People and Culture Manager also acts as a trusted advisor to leadership, fostering a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Leadership

  • Develop and execute People and Culture strategies that align with the organization’s vision, mission, and goals.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on all matters related to people and culture.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and high-performing organizational culture.

Talent Acquisition and Management

  • Oversee recruitment strategies to attract and retain top talent.
  • Ensure a seamless onboarding process to integrate new employees effectively.
  • Manage talent development programs, including training, career planning, and succession planning.

Employee Engagement and Retention

  • Design and implement initiatives to improve employee satisfaction, morale, and retention.
  • Lead employee engagement surveys, analyze results, and develop action plans.
  • Organize and oversee activities that enhance employee experience and organizational culture.

Performance Management

  • Develop and manage performance appraisal systems to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Provide guidance to managers on setting goals, conducting reviews, and offering constructive feedback.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

  • Drive DEI initiatives and create a workplace environment that values and respects diversity.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of DEI programs.

Employee Relations

  • Address employee concerns and conflicts by providing support and mediation.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, organizational policies, and ethical practices.
  • Foster open communication and trust between employees and management.

Compliance and Policy Management

  • Develop, implement, and update HR policies and procedures in line with legal and organizational requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with local labor laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Monitor workplace safety and health initiatives.

People Analytics and Reporting

  • Track and analyze HR metrics such as turnover, engagement, and recruitment success.
  • Provide regular reports to senior leadership on the effectiveness of people and culture initiatives.

Budget Management

  • Develop and manage budgets for people and culture initiatives, training programs, and other HR activities.
  • Ensure cost-effective use of resources without compromising quality.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead and develop the People and Culture team, providing coaching and support.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to achieve organizational goals.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial and Organizational Psychology or a related field.
  • Professional certification of (HRMAU) is a MUST.
  • Strong understanding of HR best practices, labor laws, and employee relations.
  • At least 5 years of experience in HR or People and Culture, with at least 2-3 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience in managing teams and executing people – centered strategies.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent decision-making and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage cross-functional teams and collaborate with senior leadership.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical Skills.
  • Strong employee relations expertise.

 

Barriers to Success in Role

  • Limited or lack of knowledge about HR best practices, labor laws, and employee relations.
  • Failure to have a professional qualification (HRMAU).
  • Inability to manage cross-functional teams and collaborate with senior leadership.
