About US:

The Goethe-Zentrum Kampala/ Uganda German Cultural Society is a non-political and non-profit organisation (cultural society) based in Kampala. It is a cooperation partner of the Goethe-Institute that yearly supports the projects of the cultural society with financial help. Our core tasks consist in the promotion of German-Ugandan relationships and in the building of a platform for the intercultural dialogue in Kampala and with other African countries. We seek this by offering cultural events and German and Luganda classes.

 

Job Summary:   The focus of the internship is to provide the individual with an opportunity to not only learn but also to practically apply what they have learnt so far; the GZK will in turn to provide an environment and tasks that offer responsibility for the various skills the intern possesses.

 

The intern will be based in the GZK Library and shall be responsible for helping in cataloguing and classification of various items; stock-taking and bibliographic work; assisting staff and patrons as a resource person for a number of library-related queries; assisting in digital library initiatives ; promoting awareness and appreciation of the library’s services to the patrons; helping compile item reviews for publicity and performing any other duties that may be assigned in the normal course of work.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

The position is open to Ugandan nationals who meet the following requirements:

  • Was enrolled in a university in Uganda ;
  • Graduated in 2024 or 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Library & Information science from a recognized, licensed and accredited institution with a grade of second class upper ;

In addition, interested candidates need to be :

  • Proficient in the MS Suite (especially MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint)
  • Open to meeting and working with a diverse range of individuals from different cultural backgrounds and beliefs as we are a multicultural organization.

Credit:

  • This internship is designed for individuals who typically have foundational skills and knowledge that they wish to apply in a practical setting. It is not designed or intended for academic credit.

Program Duration:

  • The successful applicant will start in March 2025. The internship is short-term (10 weeks) and full time (5 days a week)
