About Organisation:
Uganda Wildlife Research & Training Institute (UWRTI) is a semi-autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, established by Uganda Wildlife Research & Training Institute Act, 2016. The Institute is mandated to: “Undertake research and training services for sustainable conservation and management of Uganda’s wildlife resources.’’
Job Summary: To provide strategic leadership and guidance in the management of the Uganda Wildlife Research and Training Institute.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Spearheads and co-ordinates the development and review of policies, strategic plans and other interventions designed to achieve growth, academic and professional excellence in Institute programs.
- Maintaining efficiency, effectiveness and good governance of the Institute.
- Providing efficient leadership to the Institute through coordinating the effective implementation of strategic management plans and Council decisions.
- Directing and supervising the Senior Management Team responsible for the academic, financial and administrative functions of the Institute and monitors their performance in line with the prescribed performance targets.
- Mobilizing both internal and external resources necessary for the implementation of the Institute policies, plans and programs.
- Oversees the acquisition and fair allocation of resource to various Institute academic bodies and administrative units.
- Is a Member of the Institute Council and presents the Institute position and recommendations on various issues and challenges requiring Council intervention as prescribed by law.
- Reports to the Council for the general conduct and discipline of Institute staff and students.
- Represents the Institute externally in order to promote awareness and understanding of the Institute mission, objectives, policies and programs.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Botany, zoology, conservation Biology, Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Health and Management or related fields from recognized institution.
- Masters in the above-mentioned fields from recognized Institution. Post graduate qualification in management related courses.
- Working Experience Twelve (12) years working experience, three (3) of which should have been at the level of Deputy Director in Government or equivalent from a reputable organization.
