About Organisation:
Uganda Wildlife Research & Training Institute (UWRTI) is a semi-autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, established by Uganda Wildlife Research & Training Institute Act, 2016. The Institute is mandated to: “Undertake research and training services for sustainable conservation and management of Uganda’s wildlife resources.’’
Job Summary: To provide technical leadership and coordination of teaching, research and extension services matters including policy and standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Initiating, obtaining approval of and promoting policies, plans and programs that enhance the academic and professional excellence of the Institute.
- Overseeing the development, implementation and review of the policy framework for monitoring the quality, standards and management of the Institute’s academic programs.
- Coordinating the preparation of budgets, including research budgets, for all Schools academic departments.
- Coordinating the planning, development and review of undergraduate, post graduate, research programs and any other academic programs of the Institute.
- Supervising the selection and admission of students.
- Initiating and coordinating the development and review of curricula for academic programs offered at the Institute.
- Monitoring compliance in setting and marking all examinations in accordance to established regulations.
- Coordinating the appointment of academic staff and external examiners.
- Overseeing optimal utilization and management of existing teaching and research funds and facilities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Botany, Zoology, Conservation Biology, Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Health and Management or related fields from recognized University or Institution.
- Masters in the above-mentioned fields from recognized University or Institution.
- Postgraduate qualification in management related courses.
Working Experience
- Nine (9) years working experience, three (3) of which should have been gained at Principal Level or equivalent from a reputable organization.
