On behalf of our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for a competent and experienced Compliance Officer to be based in Jinja, Uganda.
Reports To: The Chief Risk Officer
Duty Station: Jinja, Uganda
Job Summary: This role involves ensuring that the organization adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, and industry standards. The role also involves identifying and managing compliance risks, developing and implementing compliance programs and providing guidance to management and staff on regulatory requirements. The compliance officer also plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization’s reputation and ensuring ethical business practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Keep the organization updated on changes in regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and ensure timely submission of required reports.
- Develop, update, and enforce compliance policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ensure policies are effectively communicated across the organization.
- Conduct compliance risk assessments to identify potential areas of vulnerability.
- Recommend and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Oversee internal audits and investigations related to compliance concerns.
- Design and deliver training programs on compliance, ethics, and regulatory updates.
- Promote a culture of compliance and ethical behavior within the organization.
- Conduct regular reviews, audits, and monitoring to ensure compliance.
- Report compliance status, violations, and remediation plans to senior management or the board.
- Maintain documentation of compliance activities, including audits, training, and investigations.
- Investigate potential compliance breaches or ethical misconduct.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to resolve compliance issues.
- Take appropriate actions, including disciplinary measures, as necessary.
- Provide expert advice to management and employees on regulatory and compliance-related matters.
- Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on strategies to mitigate compliance risks.
- Serve as the point of contact for external auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate with legal counsel as needed for complex compliance issues.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law or a related field.
- Understanding of regulatory and legal requirements relevant to the manufacturing industry.
- At least 3-5 years post qualification experience as a Compliance Officer.
- Experience in developing and implementing compliance programs and conducting internal audits.
- Ability to track record of handling regulatory inspections, reporting, and managing stakeholder relationships.

- Limited or lack of technical knowledge about compliance standards.
