About US:

Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU) is a not-for-profit charitable NGO established in 1993 with the vision “Palliative Care for all in need in Africa.” HAU is registered by Uganda’s NGO Bureau and is a licensed private not-for-profit (PNFP) health facility registered by the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council (UMDPC).

The three pillars of HAU:

  • To provide an affordable and culturally appropriate clinical service to patients suffering from
  • Cancer, HIV/AIDS, and/ or other life-threatening illnesses
  • To offer education in Palliative Care to health and non-health professionals
  • To support the spread of Palliative Care to other African countries

 

Job Summary:   To support the clinical teams in the provision of high quality, sustainable and reproducible clinical services for the sub-Saharan African context. As well as a responsibility post, it is a training post for those wishing to continue in the Palliative Care specialty. This is a Full Time post

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To support the team by giving medical input into medical assessment of all new patients coming into HAU and giving advice where necessary to the Hospice Team.
  • To support the HAU Team with medical knowledge appropriate to end of life and other conditions.
  • The doctor is an essential part of the clinical team, working together with them particularly giving concentration to the most difficult cases.
  • Participate in writing up of Palliative Care research and papers, publications to disseminate information about African Palliative Care;
  • provide strategic direction on clinical matters; serve a member of Senior Management Team;
  • Develop and implement clinical department work plans; Document best practices and develop/implement clinical department policies and procedures;
  • Audit clinical department performance against planned activities and outcomes;
  • Report against clinical department strategy and work plans;
  • Develop and manage clinical department budget;
  • Supporting, supervising and reviewing performance of the medical teams;

 




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Masters in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or Family Medicine, experience in Palliative Care is an added advantage.
