About the Company:
Yalelo (U) Limited is a tilapia fish farm that was established in Uganda in 2019. The farm is located in Butembe, Buikwe district on the shores of Lake Victoria. Yalelo Uganda is a subsidiary of First Wave Group B.V; a Dutch company with a portfolio of aquaculture related assets in Africa. First Wave Group owns and operates Yalelo Zambia, a pioneer of Aquaculture founded in 2011 that has grown quickly to become the leading fish farm in Zambia and among the largest aquaculture farms in Africa.
Job Summary: Provides leadership in engineering support and multidisciplinary engineering expertise to production operations, striving for continuous productivity and quality improvements/enhancements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Using design software, develop detailed designs and resolve design and development problems.
- Feasibility assessments and site inspections.
- Researching and providing estimates for projects.
- Preparing and implementing project plans to ensure that projects run smoothly, and structures are completed within budget and on time
- Scheduling material and equipment purchases and deliveries
- Making sure the project complies with legal requirements, especially health and safety
- Assessing the sustainability and environmental impact of projects
- Manage the repair, maintenance, and replacement of company buildings and infrastructure
- Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to industrial and managerial personnel
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice in civil engineering to aid and improve operational performance.
- Contribute to functional excellence of the engineering team
- Develop a maintenance and repair schedule that aims to continuously drive down company-wide non-productive time (NPT)
- Develop and maintain project plans to ensure delivery of milestones to agreed cost targets and timescales.
- Ensures KPIs are met by working to the overall plan, including management of, and reporting.
- Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance.
- Manages and leads the team, daily supervision to maximise efficient productivity.
- Monitors the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems.
- Provide technical expertise to the team.
- Production of required civil engineering reports
- Reviewing government regulations and ordinances.
- Making recommendations or presenting alternative solutions to problems.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Member – Engineering Institute of Uganda.
- At least 6 years engineering experience in food or a related industry, which must include two years’ project management and/or supervisory experience.
- Action and detail oriented, having a drive for success.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong management and leadership skills together with excellent communication, influencing, negotiating and presentation skills.
- The ability to network and interact effectively with a broad range of associates spanning varied disciplines and responsibilities.
- Ability to coordinate more than one project at a time.
- Service-focussed approach vested in product and process excellence and customer satisfaction.
- Resilience and the ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.
- Flexible and adaptable with the ability to work within a changing environment and respond to different demands with a sense of urgency.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of civil engineering principles, methods, and techniques
- Understanding of principles of capital improvement cost estimation and contract administration.
- Understanding of principles of programs and project development, implementation, management and on-going evaluation.
- Knowledge and understanding of all relevant national laws, regulations, and operating guidelines.
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of the range of MS Office packages and civil engineering software applications.
