Founded by Cuthbert and Olive Muhanguzi, the company was established on 23rd August 2007. Since its inception, S&S Ent Ltd has grown into a dynamic business with diverse operations, including a salon, washing bay, cyber café, supermarket, restaurant, and a private fresh produce bakery.

 

Job Summary:  The Bakery Manager at S&S Enterprise is responsible for overseeing all aspects of bakery operations, including production, inventory management, quality control, staff supervision, and customer service. This role ensures that the bakery delivers high-quality baked goods consistently while maintaining cost efficiency and compliance with health and safety regulations. The Bakery Manager works closely with other department heads to align bakery operations with the overall strategic objectives of the enterprise and to enhance the customer experience across our food service divisions.

 

The Bakery Manager at S&S Enterprise is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of bakery operations, ensuring that high-quality baked goods are produced efficiently while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality standards. This role demands a blend of culinary expertise, operational leadership, and financial acumen. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving customer satisfaction, enhancing operational efficiency, and contributing to the overall success of the enterprise.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Bakery Operations Management:

  • Supervise daily bakery production, ensuring that all baked goods meet the company’s quality and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement production schedules to optimize output and minimize waste.
  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of bakery equipment, ensuring that all machinery operates efficiently and safely.

Inventory and Supply Chain Coordination:

  • Manage inventory levels of raw materials (e.g., flour, sugar, yeast) and finished products, ensuring timely reordering and preventing shortages or excess stock.
  • Liaise with suppliers to negotiate favorable terms and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality ingredients.
  • Implement robust inventory control procedures, including regular audits and cycle counts.

Quality Control and Product Development:

  • Monitor product quality at every stage of the baking process, ensuring that all products meet established standards for taste, appearance, and safety.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to develop new products and seasonal offerings that align with market trends and customer preferences.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety standards, including proper storage, handling, and sanitation practices.

Staff Supervision and Training:

  • Recruit, train, and manage bakery staff, including bakers, pastry chefs, and support personnel.
  • Schedule shifts and allocate tasks to maintain optimal staffing levels, particularly during peak periods.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities.

Financial and Cost Control:

  • Prepare and manage the bakery budget, tracking expenses and implementing cost control measures to maximize profitability.
  • Analyze production costs and identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve efficiency without compromising product quality.
  • Monitor sales data and production metrics to adjust operations and support strategic decision-making.

Customer Service and Sales Support:

  • Ensure that the bakery area is clean, well-organized, and appealing to customers, enhancing the overall shopping experience.
  • Address customer inquiries and complaints promptly, ensuring that customer feedback is used to improve product offerings and service quality.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to execute promotions, in-store displays, and special events that drive bakery sales.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all bakery operations comply with Ugandan health and safety regulations, as well as internal policies and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular training sessions on safety procedures, emergency response, and proper equipment use.
  • Maintain detailed records of compliance, safety audits, and quality control checks.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Food Science, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Additional certifications in food safety (e.g., HACCP) and bakery management are preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in bakery operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Demonstrated success in managing production, controlling costs, and maintaining high quality standards in a bakery setting.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Quality and Process Improvement:
  • In-depth knowledge of bakery production processes and quality control measures.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with staff, suppliers, and customers.

  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Familiarity with bakery equipment, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel for data analysis).
