About Organisation:
Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL) is a leading sugar manufacturer in Uganda. KSL boasts of two sugar estates, one in Kakira – Jinja and the other in Kayunga.
Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the Workshop Supervisor is to coordinate and oversee all machine shop activities to ensure efficient operations, high-quality output, and adherence to company policies, including safety and health standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Task Supervision and Allocation
- Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, and performance.
- Receive and process job orders, identify material requirements, and initiate requisitions for approval.
- Inspect intricate finished jobs for satisfactory workmanship and accuracy.
- Oversee the proper use of spare parts and workshop materials.
- Assign specific tasks to staff, providing technical guidance and support as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Technical Training Officer to supervise on-the-job training programs.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure the availability of required technical tools and instruments for tasks.
- Routinely check and maintain shop equipment, including lathes, shapers, mills, and grinders, to ensure proper servicing and accuracy.
- Verify that spare parts meet quality standards and specified tolerances.
Record Keeping and Housekeeping
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, materials used, and other workshop production activities for control purposes.
- Prepare and submit routine and ad hoc reports to the Workshop Superintendent.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the work environment, promoting good housekeeping practices.
Safety and Health Enforcement
- Adhere to and enforce company safety, health, and environmental policies among all subordinates.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in Mechanical/Production Engineering or Workshop Technology from a recognized institution.
Experience
- A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in lathe, milling, and shaping within a large mechanical workshop, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Skills and Competencies
- Demonstrable expertise in lathe, milling, and shaping operations, as well as lubrication and equipment servicing.
- Strong supervisory, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain high-quality standards in production.
- Proficiency in enforcing safety and operational protocols.
