About Organisation:

African Youth Development Link (AYDL) is the leading youth-focused not-for-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Uganda on a mission to empower young people and youth to participate in governance and development decision-making processes at all levels. Established on 14th July 2009, AYDL advocates the implementation and reform of laws and policies for increased youth participation in leadership and democratic governance processes at local and national levels for progress and change in Uganda and beyond.

 

Additionally, AYDL coordinates the Youth Coalition on Electoral Democracy in Uganda (YCED), which has a membership of over 80 organizations spread across the country. The Coalition spearheads the National Youth Manifesto (NYM) initiative – an innovative framework for continuous advocacy and engagement on nationally agreed mutual policy and program priorities of youth to government and other actors during each five-year political term of office.

 

Job Summary:   The Logistics Assistant/Driver is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation services, ensuring the maintenance of organizational vehicles, and supporting logistical operations to facilitate the successful implementation of AYDL’s programs and activities.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Transportation Services

  • Provide safe and punctual transportation for staff, materials, and equipment to project sites, meetings, and other destinations as required.
  • Uphold high standards of professionalism, courtesy, and safety during all trips.
  • Ensure adherence to traffic laws and organizational policies while driving.

Vehicle Maintenance

  • Conduct daily vehicle checks, including fuel levels, tire pressure, brakes, and other essential functions to ensure roadworthiness.
  • Maintain a schedule for regular servicing and coordinate timely repairs with approved service providers.
  • Promptly report any vehicle issues, damages, or mechanical failures to the supervisor.

Logistics Support

  • Assist with the loading and unloading of program materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Provide logistical support for procurement activities, including the collection and delivery of goods, supplies, and documentation.
  • Support administrative tasks related to fleet and logistics management as needed.

Documentation

  • Accurately complete and maintain vehicle logbooks detailing trip information, fuel usage, and maintenance records.
  • Ensure compliance with USAID and organizational documentation requirements for vehicle operations.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Valid driving license with classes covering the organization’s fleet of vehicles.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably within an NGO or international development context.
  • Basic mechanical skills, including the ability to identify and troubleshoot minor vehicle issues.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal).
  • Familiarity with USAID or other donor-funded project requirements is an added advantage.
  • Physical and Other Requirements
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to project sites in rural and urban areas.
