Job Summary:   The Senior Investment Officer – Green Finance will source for fundable projects/opportunities within the Green Finance space and will be responsible for coordinating green finance operations    within the Investment Directorate, with the aim of ensuring that the bank provides relevant and all-inclusive interventions that stimulate environmentally sustainable development within the country.

 

Accountability Statement: The Senior Investment Officer – Green Finance is accountable for the  overall  performance  of  green  investments  under  the Investments  Directorate.  In  executing  this  mandate,  the  role holder will initiate, nurture, and manage all customer relationships, within in Green Investments section and assess the impact of such investments in line with the bank’s mandate and High Impact goals.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and/or regular review of the green finance policy and related process environment to optimize efficiency and customer experience.
  • Support the implementation of green investment strategies and plans that facilitate achievement of UDB’s climate objectives linked to climate mitigation, adaptation, and other environmental benefits.
  • Lead development of a quality green investments pipeline and drive overall portfolio growth within the Bank’s green sectors, including effectively managing the qualitative and quantitative growth of the green investments portfolio.
  • Initiate, build and manage sustainable relations with key stakeholders, clients, and strategic partners to facilitate sustained business growth of green investments.
  • Proactively solicit and manage feedback from clients and other stakeholders and implement informed actions to address any emerging issues within the green investment portfolio.
  • Provide technical inputs in establishing and managing partnerships and networking initiatives with key players in the green finance space to advance the Bank’s sustainability agenda.
  • Support preparation of analytical work and knowledge products on climate financing to position the Bank as a thought leader in green finance matters.
  • Conduct detailed analysis for all green investments and prepare appraisal reports for submission to the relevant Committees for approval.
  • Conduct a portfolio assessment for green investments and assess their impact through application of relevant Green House Gas accounting tools, evaluate   finance requirements and match sources to different resilience activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting (periodic and ad-hoc) on performance of the Bank’s green investment portfolio, budget  monitoring  among  others,  to  guide   decision-making   and   compliance   to   stakeholder reporting requirements.
  • Support technical due diligence in line with national and international reporting standards, and work with relevant internal teams  to  ensure  that  contractual  conditions include the necessary green finance requirements.
  • Provide expert advice, and training to all staff within and outside the  Investment  Directorate   to  build  their understanding   of   green   finance,   conditions, and standards to ensure that programs are delivered with minimized compliance risk; and work collaboratively with relevant departments to train and build capacity of staff.
  • Perform any  other  roles  as  may  be  assigned  by management from time to time.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies/ Natural Resources / Economics / Engineering / Climate Change/ Risk Management or  any  other  related  discipline  from  a reputable education institution.
  • A postgraduate qualification & professional certification in a related field will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience or related experience in green finance   in   a   large   financial institution or development  bank,  preferably  engaged  in  long term funding or project financing.
  • Underwriting specialization and/or experience in green finance will be an added advantage.

  • High degree of professionalism and judgment.
