We buy 100% of locally grown tobacco leaf, supporting 14,000 small farmers in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC); in Angola we run a farm with more than 200 permanent employees and 3 times more seasonal.
Job Summary: Subsahara Leaf Uganda Ltd is looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to be based in its Arua Office.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preparation of Income tax, VAT, Profit & Loss, and the Balance Sheet.
- Responsible for all month-end activities including month end journal entries, balance sheet and profit & loss account scrutiny, variance analysis and reporting of accurate financial information for assigned cost centers within Group deadlines.
- Fixed Asset Accounting: Manage the company Fixed Asset Register, ensuring proper recording of asset acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation calculations in accordance with accounting standards.
- Assist in managing the Group reporting processes, including long-term financial and cash flow forecasts, monthly/ quarterly business reviews, weekly metrics, and forecast updates.
- Preparation and recording of bank transactions, along with the timely completion of bank reconciliations.
- Verifying, allocating, posting and reconciling accounts payable and receivable.
- Tracking the inventory movements and managing the company’s inventory levels: ensure the inventory levels are accurate and properly accounted for.
- Generate financial and non-financial reports as mandated by the company.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements along with schedules
- Preparation and filing of monthly and periodic tax returns, and attending to URA queries.
- Generate any additional reports as requested by the management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The desired Candidate for the Position should possess the Qualities as outlined;
- Sound knowledge accounting policies, procedures and standards.
- Proven experience in general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process is essential (mandatory).
- Hands-on experience with ERP Tally (Prime) accounting software.
- Very Familiar with financial accounting statements.
- Proficiency in MS Office functions, including MS Word and MS Excel.
- Inventory costing and management (mandatory).
- An aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills, great attention to details.
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance; an additional qualification from a Professional Accounting Body, would be an added advantage
- Five years of experience Mandatory: Manufacturing experience is mandatory; Tobacco industry is desirable
