About Organisation:
Metropol Uganda Limited is a Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) licensed by Bank of Uganda in 2015 to offer CRB services to the Ugandan market and has been in operation since then. Metropol provides CRB services to Bank of Uganda regulated financial institutions and other Accredited Credit Providers (ACPs) as provided for in the Financial Institutions (Credit Reference Bureau) Regulations, 2022.
Job Summary: The overall purpose of the role is to insulate MUL from strategic, operational, legal, financial and reputational risks while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Risk & Compliance Officer is the focal person in providing risk assessment and mitigation measures and ensuring that MUL management is well updated on the latest risk management measures necessary to ensure that the business achieves its revenue and profit goals with minimal disruptions.
Metropol now seeks the services of a competent and business minded Risk & Compliance Officer to support business growth aspirations of the Institution by ensuring that the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations as well as identifies and manages business risks in a sustainable manner.
WHAT WORK WILL BE DONE IN YOUR ROLE:
- Innovation Work: To be discussed with the GM from time to time depending on business needs and as per the MUL Innovation Policy.
- Improvement Work: Strive to automate some routine work processes in order to be more effective and efficient.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing policies, initiatives, and procedures that align with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards and maintaining an up to date Compliance Register for MUL.
- Conducting risk assessments by assessing potential risks and vulnerabilities within MUL’s operations and processes, identifying where compliance breaches may occur, and developing strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Regular monitoring and auditing of business operations and practices by reviewing transactions, records, and activities to identify any compliance issues or deviations from established policies and procedures.
- Providing training sessions and workshops to ensure that employees are aware of their compliance obligations and legal requirements.
- Keeping up with regulatory compliance changes by staying informed about new laws, regulations and best industry practices.
- Assessing the company’s overall compliance risk and advising management accordingly on implementation of mitigation measures.
- Conducting compliance risk assessment training for staff.
- Regularly updating MUL’s Risk Management Policy and the overall Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
- Developing risk management strategies and maintaining the MUL’s Risk Management register.
- Following up on compliance issues that require investigation.
- Evaluating the risk and compliance profiles of third-party vendors, ensuring they meet required standards to support MUL business operations.
- Participating in developing and testing business continuity plans, ensuring that MUL is prepared to respond effectively to emergencies.
- Reporting on compliance issues on a regular basis.
- Any other duties that may be assigned to you from time to time by management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or any other related field.
- Post qualification training in Risk & Compliance management will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in the financial services industry.

- Knowledge of legal requirements and industry regulations
- Practical knowledge in developing company policy and procedure documents
