About the Company:
Yako Bank (U) Limited was incorporated in the Republic of Uganda in 2010 and licensed as a Credit Institution by Bank of Uganda in 2020. In September 2015, Yako got its license to operate as a deposit taking institution and started operations under the name Yako Microfinance (U) Limited. It upgraded to a Credit Institution in 2020 and was licensed to operate as Yako Bank (U) Limited. Yako Bank is owned by different shareholders and has been licensed by Bank of Uganda to provide savings and lending products to different clients.
Job Summary: Yako Bank is seeking a highly skilled IT Manager to join its team at the Head Office. This role is critical in driving the bank’s IT operations, ensuring system reliability, data security, and supporting the institution’s technological needs. The position requires a dynamic individual with strong leadership and technical expertise to oversee IT infrastructure, implement new technologies, and support digital transformation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: As an IT Manager, your responsibilities may include:
Strategic IT Leadership
- Develop and implement the bank’s IT strategy aligned with business objectives.
- Oversee IT operations, ensuring seamless integration with business processes.
- Identify opportunities for technological advancements to improve efficiency and customer service.
IT Infrastructure Management
- Manage and maintain the bank’s IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and systems.
- Ensure uninterrupted IT services and timely resolution of any issues.
- Monitor and evaluate system performance, recommending upgrades when necessary.
Data Security and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all data security and regulatory requirements, including standards set by the Bank of Uganda.
- Protect customer and organizational data through robust cybersecurity measures.
- Conduct periodic IT audits to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.
Project Management
- Lead IT-related projects, such as system upgrades, new implementations, and technology rollouts.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure technology meets operational needs.
- Oversee vendor management for IT solutions and hardware procurement.
Team Management and Training
- Supervise and mentor the IT team, ensuring they stay up-to-date with industry trends.
- Conduct training sessions for bank staff to improve their proficiency in using IT systems.
- Promote a collaborative culture within the IT department.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare regular reports on IT system performance, issues, and progress for senior management.
- Maintain accurate documentation of IT systems, licenses, and procedures.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Advanced certifications (e.g., ITIL, CISSP, PMP, or CISM) are a plus.
Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in IT management, preferably within the banking or financial services sector.
- Proven track record in overseeing IT operations, network infrastructure, and system security.
Skills and Competencies
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in IT infrastructure, networking, and database management.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity protocols and regulatory compliance in banking.
- Familiarity with core banking systems and digital banking solutions.
Leadership Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage an IT team effectively.
- Ability to align IT strategy with business goals.
Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking:
- Skilled in troubleshooting complex IT issues and implementing sustainable solutions.
- Strong decision-making skills under pressure.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical teams.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
