African Youth Development Link (AYDL) is the leading youth-focused not-for-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Uganda on a mission to empower young people and youth to participate in governance and development decision-making processes at all levels. Established on 14th July 2009, AYDL advocates the implementation and reform of laws and policies for increased youth participation in leadership and democratic governance processes at local and national levels for progress and change in Uganda and beyond.
Job Summary: The ICT Officer will be responsible for managing and maintaining the organization’s IT infrastructure, providing technical support to staff, ensuring data security, and implementing best practices for efficient digital operations. This position plays a key role in enhancing the organization’s technological capabilities, troubleshooting IT issues, and ensuring the smooth operation of all digital systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
IT Infrastructure Management
- Oversee the maintenance and operation of the organization’s IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and communication systems.
- Ensure the smooth and uninterrupted functioning of digital platforms and IT systems.
- Coordinate the installation and configuration of new IT systems and technologies.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting
- Provide timely technical support to staff, resolving IT-related issues and troubleshooting software, hardware, and network problems.
- Maintain user access management for internal software tools and systems.
- Support staff in using ICT tools and ensure they adhere to best practices for data management and security.
Data Security and System Maintenance
- Implement and monitor data security protocols, ensuring all systems are safeguarded against cyber threats.
- Oversee regular data backups and disaster recovery protocols to ensure organizational continuity.
- Maintain antivirus software, firewalls, and other systems for preventing unauthorized access and data breaches.
Capacity Building and Training
- Develop and deliver training for staff on ICT tools, systems, and best practices.
- Promote a culture of ICT literacy across the organization to improve overall efficiency.
Reporting and Documentation
- Document IT systems and processes for reference and compliance purposes.
- Provide regular reports on the status of IT systems, including performance metrics and security audits.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Professional Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in an ICT role, with a proven track record of managing IT infrastructure and supporting staff in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Experience in implementing IT security measures and troubleshooting a wide range of ICT issues.
- Knowledge of data protection laws and best practices for securing organizational data.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in network administration, system management, and IT troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of data security protocols, including firewalls, antivirus software, and encryption tools.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and remote collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Zoom, Google Workspace).
Other Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
