About the Company:
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 300 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 Grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of Health.
Job Summary: The Research Assistant will administer the endpoint survey including Hypertension and HIV screening at household level and refer eligible participants to the public Health facilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtaining consent from heads of households and parents/guardians of children before any study procedures are conducted.
- Accurately administer electronic endpoint questionnaires to study participants ensuring that study data are collected and case report forms are filled as per protocol.
- Conduct HIV and Hypertension counselling and screening in a rural community setting.
- Obtain blood samples from study participants and prepare them for transportation.
- Referral of study participants to public health facilities for hypertension, and HIV prevention and treatment services.
- Any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor within your area of work.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Diploma in Nursing or midwifery or clinical medicine from a recognized institution and licensed by the responsible authority.
- Should have good knowledge of research ethics and possess a certificate in Good Clinical Practice.
- Should be fluent in Runyankole/Rukiga and/or Luganda.
- Should possess excellent computer (Microsoft office) skills.
- Highly flexible and willing to work in multiple study communities in a rural setting.
