Job Summary: We are looking for a dynamic and experienced News Reporter & Anchor to join our team. The ideal candidate should be proficient in Luganda (both written and spoken), possess strong journalism skills, and have experience in news reading, reporting, and editing across multiple platforms, including print, radio, and online. If you have a passion for storytelling, a sharp news sense, and the ability to engage audiences, we want to hear from you!
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- News Anchoring: Deliver accurate, clear, and engaging news bulletins on radio in Luganda.
- News Reporting: Identify, research, and report on news stories, ensuring accuracy and fairness.
- Story Sourcing: Develop contacts, follow leads, and gather credible information for news stories.
- Editing: Edit news scripts and reports for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to editorial guidelines.
- Multimedia Adaptation: Tailor news content for multiple platforms, including print, radio, and online.
- Live Reporting: Provide live reports from the field, covering breaking news and major events.
- Interviewing: Conduct interviews with key sources, newsmakers, and experts.
- Compliance & Ethics: Uphold journalistic integrity and ethical reporting standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with editors, producers, and other journalists to ensure comprehensive news coverage.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Luganda (both written and spoken) is a must.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience with a reputable brand.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), and statistical software (e.g., SPSS)
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
Core Competencies
- Strong editorial judgment and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Experience in multimedia journalism, including digital and online news platforms.
- Excellent research, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
- Ability to operate basic audio editing and recording equipment.
- Strong on-air presence and voice modulation skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays when necessary.
