About Organisation:
African Youth Development Link (AYDL) is the leading youth-focused not-for-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Uganda on a mission to empower young people and youth to participate in governance and development decision-making processes at all levels. Established on 14th July 2009, AYDL advocates the implementation and reform of laws and policies for increased youth participation in leadership and democratic governance processes at local and national levels for progress and change in Uganda and beyond.
Job Summary: The Communications & Advocacy Specialist will play a key role in enhancing AYDL’s visibility, influence, and impact through strategic communication initiatives and advocacy campaigns. This role requires a creative and proactive individual with expertise in public relations, digital media, and stakeholder engagement to amplify AYDL’s programs and mission.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Communication Strategy and Content Development
- Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies aligned with AYDL’s programs and advocacy priorities.
- Create high-quality content for social media, websites, newsletters, press releases, and other communication platforms to effectively engage diverse audiences.
Advocacy Campaigns
- Design and lead impactful advocacy campaigns that align with AYDL’s goals and amplify the voices of stakeholders.
- Identify key messages and audiences for advocacy efforts, ensuring strategic alignment with organizational objectives.
Media and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, influencers, and partners to promote AYDL’s work.
- Act as the organization’s spokesperson in media engagements when necessary.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of communication and advocacy initiatives.
- Provide data-driven reports with actionable recommendations for improvement.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
Work Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in communications, advocacy, or public relations, preferably in the NGO sector.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in digital media tools, analytics, and content management systems.
- Strong knowledge of social media platforms, strategies, and best practices.
Language and Writing Skills:
- Exceptional writing and editing skills in English.
- Ability to tailor messages for various audiences and platforms effectively.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong relationship-building, networking, and presentation skills.
