Job Summary: The accountant will manage the project’s / programme’s accounting and financial controlling.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties with own area of responsibility
Manage the project’s/program’s accounting.
- Maintain accounting related data on the basis of the current accounting software.
- Fill up the check-book form as required per deadline.
- Prepare vouchers for book-keeping and (where responsible) indicate their cost classification.
- Verify correctness of vouchers, including supporting documents
- Check receipts and balance the field offices’ cash sheets.
- Prepare and control the monthly project journal/balance sheet and send it to the Welthungerhilfe office.
- Follow up on the arrange for a/c receivables and payables settlement (e.g. payment of utilities)
Control financial transactions
- Verify the correctness of the cash book (petty cash and bank transactions) and report results.
- Verify the numerical correctness of contracts and execute payments.
- Provide necessary documents and reports for internal controlling.
Assist in the project’s /program’s financial management.
- In the absence of an HR Officer, prepare monthly payment sheets for staff (salaries and calculate daily allowances and overtime payments
- Process claims for travel expenses.
- Prepare financial declarations to the authorities.
- Provide necessary documents for the project’s / program’s financial planning.
- Maintain the office inventory list online.
- Immediately report all problems involving finance and regulations
- File all important documents regarding the project’s /program’s accounting and finances.
Duties without own area of responsibility
- Fulfillment of any other tasks which are assigned by the management and correspond in general with the character of this position.
Specific activities and duties of the position / Position specific qualifications
- Upload online bank payments
- Verify the adequacy of cash kept in the office through leading cash counts as mandated by the applicable policy.
- Prepare office running cost share documentation for onward review by Finance Officer
- Support partner initial and ongoing assessments and support project compliance reviews
- Assist the responsible Finance Officer during internal and external audits as well as donor spot checks.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the accountant position must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration. An equivalent, from an accredited institution, is essential.
- Membership of or studentship towards professional bodies such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA and any similar bodies will be an added advantage.
- At least 3-4 years professional experience in a similar position preferably with international NGOs.
- Good working experience of financial software and Office 365
- High integrity and willingness to conduct her/himself transparently.
- Self-evident interpersonal skills that cause senior managers to seek their help & counsel in resolving financial/ administrative issues maturely.
- Self-organized & flexible, creative, initiative & good team player.
- Ability to establish & maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity & respect of diversity.
- The position holder should work in a client and team oriented manner and adhere to standards as described in the “WHH/GAA Code of Conduct
