WWF Uganda Country Office (WWF UCO) works with central and local government agencies, private sector, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the local communities to implement its various conservation programmes on Energy and Climate, Forestry and Wildlife, and Freshwater in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Driver will safely transport staff, visitors, and goods between satellite offices, as well as assist with administrative tasks and logistical support. The Driver will uphold WWF UCO’s standards for safety, professionalism, and efficiency while contributing to the smooth functioning of satellite office operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: In this regard, the Driver will:
- Safely drive WWF vehicles to transport staff, visitors, and materials between satellite offices and designated locations.
- Ensure adherence to local traffic laws, WWF’s safety protocols, and vehicle operating procedures at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper maintenance of assigned vehicles, including regular inspections and reporting of any issues.
- Maintain the proper use, cleanliness and repair of the WWF vehicle under their charge to ensure they are safe, reliable, road worthy and compliant with regulatory standards and timely report any issues. This includes ensuring that they are comprehensively insured at all times.
- Assist with logistical arrangements for meetings, workshops, events, and field trips, including loading/unloading equipment and supplies.
- Coordinate with administrative and program staff to facilitate efficient scheduling of transportation services.
- Provide support for office errands, deliveries, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service to WWF staff, visitors, and stakeholders during transportation activities.
- Ensure timely and efficient transportation services to meet the operational needs of satellite offices.
- Maintain effective communication with office personnel to coordinate schedules and respond to transportation requests promptly.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and compliance with WWF’s vehicle maintenance standards.
- Report any accidents, incidents, or vehicle issues promptly to supervisors and follow established procedures for documentation and resolution.
- Promote a culture of safety among passengers and colleagues, emphasizing the importance of seat belt use and safe driving practices.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate should have a UCE Certificate or equivalent, with additional vocational training in automotive mechanics or related fields being desirable.
- They must possess a valid Driving Permit, at least a DL class, and have a proven record of at least five years of safe driving, preferably in a similar role with an NGO or international organization.
- Knowledge and skills in defensive driving are an added advantage.
- The candidate should also have a clean driving record, familiarity with local traffic laws and routes in the designated area of operation, and strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
- The ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic work environment is essential.
- A commitment to WWF’s mission and values of conservation, sustainability, and environmental stewardship is required. Additionally, knowledge of motor vehicle mechanics would be a beneficial asset.
