Job Summary: The role plays a critical role in protecting the organization’s systems, data, and digital assets from cyber threats. It involves identifying vulnerabilities, monitoring security systems, and responding to incidents to safeguard sensitive customer information and comply with regulatory requirements. The role holder is pivotal in the bank’s defence against ever-evolving cyber threats. This role combines technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and proactive monitoring to ensure the bank’s digital assets and customer trust are safeguarded.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Threat Monitoring and Analysis:
- Use Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems to monitor logs and detect unusual patterns in network traffic, applications, and system activity.
- Track threat intelligence feeds and stay updated on emerging cyber risks.
Incident Response:
- Investigate anomalies to determine if they are false positives or genuine threats.
- Respond to security incidents promptly, including malware attacks, unauthorized access, and phishing attempts.
- Document the incident response process, including timelines and actions taken.
Vulnerability Management:
- Perform regular vulnerability scans using tools like Nessus, Qualys, or OpenVAS.
- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure timely resolution of critical vulnerabilities.
- Prepare detailed reports on vulnerabilities and their remediation status.
Security Controls:
- Enforce security protocols, such as strong password policies, data encryption, and user access controls.
- Monitor employee activities for compliance with acceptable use policies.
Training and Awareness:
- Conduct training sessions to raise awareness about phishing, social engineering, and safe online practices.
- Provide regular updates on emerging threats and security best practices.
Risk Assessments and Penetration Testing:
- Conduct risk assessments for new systems, applications, or processes.
- Perform penetration testing on critical systems and networks to identify exploitable vulnerabilities.
Collaboration:
- Work with the Security Operations Centre (SOC) team during incident investigations.
- Partner with IT teams and third-party testers for advanced assessments and remediation strategies.
Key Result Areas
- Regularly scan and analyze systems, applications, and networks to identify vulnerabilities.
- Ensure incidents are logged, tracked, and resolved promptly to minimize risk.
- Improve employee awareness and compliance through training and testing (e.g., phishing simulations).
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Cybersecurity, or Network Engineering.
- Certifications such as CISM, CEH, CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or GSEC.
Skills and Experience
Experience:
- 1–3 years in IT or cybersecurity-related positions (e.g., system administration, network support).
Technical Skills:
- Hands-on experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, and vulnerability scanners.
- Knowledge of security protocols, encryption, and network segmentation.
Soft Skills:
- Ability to analyze complex security incidents and logs to identify threats.
- Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
