Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF) is a not for profit organisation registered in the UK and Uganda which is dedicated to protecting Uganda’s national parks, protected areas and conservancies.

 

Job Summary:   The Project Accountant will provide financial management for the field-based expenditures and reporting for this project. He / She will ensure complete accuracy of all finance transactions related to the project.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Finance management:

  • Transaction processing and quality assurance
  • Enter all transactions relating to projects onto the finance system in a timely manner
  • Create controls and processes, aligned to UCF’s policies and guidelines
  • Prepare and review monthly transactions listing for completeness and assurance and post required adjustments in a timely fashion.
  • Undertake cash counts and reconcile all project balance sheet accounts every month
  • Ensure all transactions are supported by adequate documentation, approval and that documentation is filed and retained in a suitable way
  • Provide technical support to Project Manager to prepare required budgets for UCF & project internal planning and budgeting process
  • Support annual audit process

Reporting and analysis:

  • Produce monthly reporting as required by the projects and partners as required
  • Produce financial analysis as required to assist decision-making
  • Review, produce and consolidate finance reports for reporting and internal management purposes as per required timelines.
  • Ensuring adherence to project reporting schedules in a timely manner
  • Produce explanatory financial narrative for any reports as required
  • Develop reporting templates (and other tools) in line with project requirements
  • Work with project staff to establish financial management systems that are integrated and meet project requirements (and audit)
  • Support periodic review and preparation of revised project budgets.
  • Maintain a register of all assets acquired during project implementation.
  • Establish a robust filing mechanism and process for all project related expenses and costs.
  • Support and ensure compliance and governance across all organisational and project requirements.
  • Support team capacity and training requirements as needed.
  • Ensure strong and positive working relationships with Consortium and other project stakeholders.
  • Support and ensure safe, secure and appropriate working environments including the safe storage of project related data and information





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • University degree in Accounting/finance or a related field
  • Professional accounting qualification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (ACCA) is an added advantage
  • At least five years’ experience in financial accounting, preferably in an NGO setting
  • Experience working with government and OR donor-funded projects with proficiency in the use of QuickBooks, and MS Office applications, particularly advanced level in MS excel is required.
  • A team player with strong inter-personal skills demonstrated by the ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Strong ability to establish prioritize, work within tight timelines and multi-task.
  • Able to work under minimal supervision with high level of resilience.
  • Ability to travel and temporarily work in remote areas as required.
