Job Summary: Bixal is seeking a Transport & Logistics Assistant for the USAID/Uganda Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (UMEL) Activity. This program supports USAID/Uganda and its partners by strengthening MEL processes, conducting high-quality evaluations, knowledge-sharing, and adaptive management to improve programmatic decision-making in the country.
What will you do?
Support the transportation and logistics function of the Operations and Administration department by driving and maintaining Activity Vehicles to meet the transportation and logistical needs of the activity. The Transport and Logistics Assistant reports directly to the Operations and Logistics Manager.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates the assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner and in accordance with the Bixal vehicle policy and USG rules and regulations on fleet management.
- Availability in time to transport authorized passengers and goods for the achievement of the Uganda MEL activity objectives.
- Conduct daily pre- departure checklists as outlined in the Fleet Management Policy.
- Inspect the vehicle to ensure that it is in good mechanical condition before any travels
- Maintains defensive driving and ensures that all passengers comply with the minimum safety standards as stipulated in the vehicle management policy.
- Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route service
- Always keep the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and outside and fuel the assigned vehicle appropriately as guided by the vehicle management policy and procedures.
- Maintains accurate, up-to -date records on trip log sheets, transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, Fuel purchase, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that may be required by Management from time to time.
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance tasks on assigned vehicle(s) as required and co-ordinate the schedule for major or periodic vehicle maintenance with the Operations and Logistics Manager to minimize service interruptions
- Maintain copies of vehicle legal documents in the vehicle, ensures that the vehicle current comprehensive insurance sticker and carry a current driving permit as required by the law.
- Respond immediately to accidents or medical emergencies by notifying emergency providers and providing first Aid and reporting accident immediately to the nearest Police station as required by law.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- High School diploma
- A valid driving license.
- A clean driving record.
- Familiarity with the GPS is an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of driving experience for a donor-funded project or a reputable donor-funded organization.
- English language fluency
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Customer service
