Job Title:   Supervisor – Mill DCS

Duty Station: Jinja, Uganda

About Organisation:

Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL) is a leading sugar manufacturer in Uganda. KSL boasts of two sugar estates, one in Kakira – Jinja and the other in Kayunga.

Job Summary:  To Monitor mill operation through DCS and maintain mill efficiency parameters by taking appropriate steps to get good quality bagasse.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for starting and stopping of mills in quick time by following safe procedures. Make sure right amount of imbibition water is applied with right temperature.
• Report to the shift engineer in case of abnormalities found in any of running equipment.
• Scrutinise the predecessor’s handover report to obtain information on the condition of the plant and make a quick physical inspection of the equipment with help of mill supervisor.
• In absence of mill supervisor, perform mill supervisor duties as and when required.
• Assign and direct staff to specific job tasks, supervise their performance and provide necessary technical guidance and advice during shutdown and planned stoppages.
• In liaison with the shift operators, monitor and ensure SHE compliance.
• Continuously monitor the operational behaviour of the plant to detect failure warning signs and take preventive measures.
• Maintain subordinate staff discipline and attend their personal and occupational grievances.
• Directly supervise plant overhauling during shutdowns and off-crop periods.
• Prepare shift handover reports covering all aspects of the operation and maintain operational logbooks.
• Perform such other duties as may be assigned or delegated by the shift engineer from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Education:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering/Bachelor of Engineering & Manufacturing Engineering or its equivalent or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized Institution.

Experience, Skills and Competences:

• A minimum of two (02) years’ experience for Degree holders and five (05) years for Diploma Holders in related field.
• Experience in handling of shift workers is an added advantage.
• Good supervisory skills, good communication and interpersonal skills.
