Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Coordination and Management

  • Coordinating with Ministry of Water & Environment and the Districts to identify and prioritise intervention areas in the watershed
  • Strengthen capacity of local partners at Parish, Sub county and District on mapping wetlands and riverbanks to determine their current state
  • Support the District to develop watershed restoration plans and use native species for reforestation
  • Coordinate the implementation of project activities according to the project plan, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
  • Report project activities as per approved DIP, and budget.
  • Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Ensure the overall project targets and goals are achieved and sustainable.
  • Ensure the day-to-day management of project activities, coordinating tasks and delegating responsibilities among project team members.
  • Lead project meetings, ensuring all team members and stakeholders are aligned and informed about progress and challenges.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with Ministry of Water & Environment, Water Management Zones, District local government, NGOs, community groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary liaison for the project with external partners, ensuring collaboration and alignment with project goals.
  • Organize community meetings and stakeholder consultations to ensure input into project design and implementation.
  • Facilitate collaboration between different stakeholders to ensure that all resources are utilized efficiently for project success.
  • Represent the organization at relevant forums, workshops, and conferences related to WASH/IWRM initiatives.
  • Actively participate in Sub national and District coordination ensuring that World Vision Uganda is adequately represented.
  • Engage with District and Sub County Health authorities to ensure quality government and community participation in the project

Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEAL)

  • Deploy advanced Digital Mapping techniques e.g. digital soil mapping, remote sensing, and other geospatial techniques to map and assess & compare wetland coverage and degradation over time
  • Oversee monitoring, documentation and reporting in compliance with agreed standards.
  • Prepare and submit timely progress reports for donors, stakeholders, and project management, documenting successes, challenges, and lessons learned
  • Ensure full participation of beneficiary communities, with particular regard for those marginalized during design, monitoring and evaluation by attending community mobilizations, meetings and community trainings.
  • Collaborate with WASH MEAL specialist and Ensure that project evaluation methods are in place and are regularly reviewed to track progress and impact.
  • Collaborate with WASH MEAL specialist to lead in organizing periodic evaluations and assessments to ensure the project’s objectives are being met.
  • Liaise with MEAL teams to develop and implement a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to track project progress, outcomes, and impacts.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on project data to assess the effectiveness of interventions and identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead in project research and documentation of learnings and evidence of project outcomes
  • Facilitate learning and knowledge sharing among project stakeholders to promote best practices and innovation in WASH financing using multiple platforms both within World vision teams and external stakeholders.

Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing

  • Identify training needs for staff, stakeholders, and local communities and ensure relevant capacity-building initiatives are implemented.
  • Support the promotion and adoption of water and soil conservation practices and nature-based agricultural enterprises
  • Promote knowledge sharing among team members, stakeholders, and community leaders through workshops and training sessions.
  • Document best practices and lessons learned throughout the project and ensure they are shared widely.

Reporting, documentation and research

  • Effectively document all information related to project successes, innovations and promising practices and disseminate through appropriate mechanisms for scaling.
  • Responsible for capturing child well-being indicators related to WASH projects in the region.
  • Ensure identification of research areas, conduct research and document key learning
  • Ensure the preparation of clear and concise reports detailing project achievements, challenges, and financial expenditures.

Community Engagement and Participation

  • Lead community consultations, ensuring that local residents are fully engaged in the planning and implementation of watershed restoration activities.
  • Ensure that the project incorporates local knowledge and respects cultural practices related to natural resource management.
  • Support the creation of local committees or groups that will take responsibility for sustaining project results beyond its completion.

Budget and resources management

  • Oversee project budget management, ensuring efficient allocation and use of resources, including staff, materials, and funds.
  • Work closely with the finance team to track expenditures and ensure all financial aspects of the project are managed within the allocated budget.
  • Coordinate resource mobilization and ensure that funding is effectively leveraged to support project activities.
  • Ensure proper financial accountability for all project activities.
  • Monitor project expenditures and ensure compliance with support office and World Vision financial policies and procedures.
  • Prepare timely financial reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders as required
  • Actively identify, assess, report and update project risk registers as required.

Risk Management and Problem Solving

  • Proactively identify potential risks to project success, including environmental, social, and financial risks.
  • Develop and implement mitigation strategies to address risks and challenges as they arise.
  • Address and resolve issues that may impact project timelines or outcomes, working with project team members to find solutions.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Required Professional Experience

  • At least 3-5 years of experience implementing or managing working in wetland or habitat restoration
  • Experience coordinating trainings, community activities and logistics at the field level
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working in rural communities and understanding of local context, culture, and dynamics in Uganda.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing and facilitating training, mentorship and capacity building of community leaders;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools/software.
  • Fluency in English and knowledge of local languages spoken is an advantage.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Environment Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Hydrology, and Agricultural Sciences and or a related field.
  • A Post graduate in Project Management, or a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Agricultural or Natural Resource Management is an added advantage
  • Must be able to ride a motor cycle with a clean riders’ license, class A

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Uganda’s environmental policies, including land and water laws. Previous experience working in the environment or watershed restoration projects is an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of experience in project coordination or management, preferably in environmental conservation, watershed restoration, or natural resource management.
  • Familiarity with international donors and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects, including community engagement and collaboration with local authorities.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial management, and donor reporting.
  • Strong understanding of sustainable land and water management practices, including climate change adaptation strategies.
  • Must possess good communication skills and be courteous in working with communities.
  • Must be fluent in applicable English.
  • Fluency in local languages is an added advantage
  • Strong knowledge about IWRM/ WASH systems financing
