About Organisation:

Hashtag Gulu Initiative is a youth-focused and youth-led registered Indigenous nonprofit organisation dedicated to supporting children and youths who live or work on the streets. Our work focuses on rehabilitation, reformation, and reintegration. We envision a community where individuals take collective responsibility for each other’s well-being, contributing to an inclusive and peaceful society. Hashtag Gulu Initiative provides alternatives to crime and violence by mentoring street-connected children and youths to become productive citizens. We collaborate with parents to address the root causes of the challenges faced by these individuals rather than relying on unsubstantiated assumptions.

 

Job Summary:  We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Clinical Psychologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide psychological assessment, diagnosis, and therapy to beneficiaries of Hashtag Gulu Initiative, most of whom are street-connected children and youths. The focus will be on promoting their emotional and mental well-being. The role involves collaborating with other professionals to design effective treatment plans and contributing to mental health awareness initiatives.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   The Clinical Psychologist will:

  • Supervise counsellors and social workers, providing guidance and training throughout project implementation.
  • Conduct psychological assessments, diagnoses, and therapy sessions for individuals, groups, or families.
  • Initiate and participate in research activities.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to client needs.
  • Provide crisis intervention and coping strategies for individuals experiencing acute distress.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive client care.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with ethical standards.
  • Deliver psycho-education to clients and their families to promote understanding of mental health issues.
  • Participate in outreach programs, workshops, and mental health awareness campaigns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Clinical or Community Psychology, or a Postgraduate qualification in Addiction Management and Counselling, or a related field.
  • Certification: Licensed or certified to practice as a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Experience: 2–3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in Acholi or Lango is an added advantage.

  • Strong knowledge of psychological theories, therapies, and evidence-based
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and committed to client well-being.
