Job Summary:  The Plant Operator II (Interior Systems) is responsible for the installation, assembly, and inspection of vehicle interior components, including seats, dashboards, carpets, interior trimming, panels, and other interior fittings. The role ensures all installations meet design specifications, functional requirements, and quality standards to enhance vehicle aesthetics and performance.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interior Systems Installation: Install interior components such as seats, dashboards, air ducts, panels, interior trimming, carpets, headliners, and other fittings. Align and secure components to ensure proper fit, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. Conduct functional tests on systems such as seat mechanisms, electronic controls, and interior lighting systems to ensure performance.
  • Component Inspection and Quality Control: Perform visual and functional inspections to identify alignment issues, defects, or inconsistencies during installation. Verify adherence to technical specifications, design drawings, and quality standards. Rectify defects or report issues requiring further adjustments or corrective action.
  • Application of Adhesives and Fastening: Apply adhesives and fasteners uniformly across surfaces to ensure components are firmly attached, following safety and environmental guidelines for adhesive use and other materials. Secure carpet edges and sections using fasteners, clips, or specialized tools to ensure a professional finish and prevent any lifting. Ensure adhesives and fastenings are applied correctly to enhance durability and resist wear.
  • Surface Preparation and Finishing: Prepare interior surfaces for assembly, including cleaning, leveling, and minor adjustments. Assist in finishing processes such as fitting upholstery, trims, and sealing gaps to ensure a neat and polished outcome.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to health and safety guidelines, including wearing protective gear (e.g., gloves, safety glasses) to handle adhesives and sharp tools safely. Ensure compliance with industry standards regarding the use of adhesives, emissions, and disposal of any waste materials.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of completed installations, including part numbers, installation times, and any adjustments made. Report production metrics, including installation counts, quality concerns, and downtime, to supervisors for performance tracking.
  • Additional Duties: Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Education Background

  • Craft/Advanced/National Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery, UVQF Level II/Trade Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery or related field.
  • Craft/Advanced/National Certificate in Automotive Mechanics, UVQF Level I/Trade Certificate in Automotive Mechanics or related field.

Experience

  • At least two (2) years of experience in vehicle interior assembly, upholstery fitting, or a related role within a manufacturing or automotive environment.

Skills

  • Proficiency in installing and aligning interior components such as seats, trims, carpets, and dashboards.
  • Ability to interpret and follow engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and specifications.
  • Competence in using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments for precise installations.
  • Attention to detail and quality assurance during installation processes.
  • Basic troubleshooting and finishing techniques for interior systems.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in upholstery, cabin trimming, or automotive interior system fitting.
  • Knowledge of electronic controls for seat mechanisms and interior systems.
  • Familiarity with adhesives, fasteners, and finishing materials used in interior assembly.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a production team and meet deadlines.
