The Sustainable Aquatic Foods (SAF) program is part of the Special Initiative “Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems”, (SI AGER) of the BMZ-KT “Life without Hunger – Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems”. It is implemented in Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Madagascar and on a regional basis with SADEC. It is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Job Summary: GIZ Uganda is recruiting 2 Programme Assistants to support the implementation of the programme
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Assistant will be responsible for:
- Supporting and participating in the supervision of the timely and efficient planning, implementation and monitoring of SAF activities,
- Timely and quality reporting and
- Coordination of partners and their programmatic activities.
Specific Tasks
The Programme Assistant performs the following tasks:
Management and Coordination
- Planning, coordination and implementation of project activities.
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual work plans and budgets, including milestones.
- Implementation of activities as indicated in work plans.
- Preparation of concept papers, technical documents and presentations.
- Preparation of detailed budgets for project activities and supervision/control of the timely provision of funds, materials and services for the implementation of project activities.
- Backstopping and advising of partners and grantees on technical issues.
- Provision of technical inputs and facilitation of meetings with project partners.
- Monitoring and evaluation of partners activities.
- Writing of reports and project documentations.
- Local, regional / national coordination meetings with government and development partners.
- Identifying the need for assistance and funding of partner institutions and NGOs.
- Contributes knowledge, ideas, feedback and lessons learned to the programme team for continuous learning, improvement and innovation.
Communication and Networking
- Develops and maintains contact with all important stakeholders.
- Provides technical assistance to local and international experts engaged by SAF.
- Ensures knowledge management by collecting, processing and distributing relevant information.
- Promotes and represents the programme, its activities and the organisation in relevant fora
Other Duties/Additional Tasks
- Undertakes further job training related to his/her position and duties, if required. Special training programs shall be identified and selected jointly with the team leader
- Perform other duties and tasks at the request of management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors in degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, or related field.
Details of experience
- 2 years of professional experience in a comparable position.
Knowledge, skills and competences
- Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, email, the internet) and computer applications (MS Office).
- Very good written and oral knowledge of English.
- Knowledge of either Luo, Lusoga or Ateso languages is an added advantage.
- Politeness and helpfulness in dealing with programme partners and colleagues.
- High degree of self-motivation and team spirit.
